When you are hanging out and drinking wine with friends, often your pet is nearby. Have you ever thought, “Let’s give the dog a sip so they can get have fun, too!”. That’s not a good idea. Here’s why.
Do Not Give Wine To Your Dog
Wine can be harmful to dogs and should not be given to them under any circumstances. Even small amounts of alcohol can cause intoxication, illness, and even death in dogs.
Dogs and other animals have a much lower tolerance for alcohol than humans do. This means that even a small amount of wine can cause serious problems for dogs. Symptoms of alcohol poisoning in dogs include vomiting, difficulty breathing, loss of coordination, and loss of consciousness. In severe cases, alcohol poisoning can be fatal.
Additionally, wine and other alcoholic beverages can contain ingredients that are toxic to dogs, such as grapes, raisins, and xylitol. These ingredients can cause severe illness and even death in dogs, even in small amounts.
It’s important to keep wine and other alcoholic beverages out of reach of dogs at all times. If you think your dog may have ingested wine or any other alcoholic beverage, it’s important to contact your veterinarian or an animal poison control center immediately. Do not try to treat the problem yourself, as this could make the situation worse.
